10 Products and Appliances for Small Kitchens

My apartment kitchen is extremely dysfunctional. Like, to the point where it’s a family joke. The few cabinets that I have are long and narrow, but weird heights so it makes it very hard to organize any items I need to put in them. The only countertop space I have is about 16″ next to the sink. Luckily, I have one open shelf that I can put my plates on since they are too wide to fit in the cabinets (and they’re basic round plates from Ikea so…). All this being said, I have had to be really careful about what products and appliances I have in my kitchen to make use of as much space as possible. Today, I’m rounding up my products that I cannot live without in my kitchen, but also don’t take up too much space.

Citrus Squeezer

This citrus squeezer is perfect for getting juice out of any citrus fruit. It’s easy to use and keeps all the seeds out of the juice. Plus, it fits perfectly in drawers with the way it folds together.

Instant Pot

My sisters got me an Instant Pot for my birthday this year and it has quickly become one of my go-tos for quick and easy dinners. I make a ton of stuff in it, from chili or rotisserie chicken, to yogurt and oatmeal.

Creo Baking Dish

I bought this baking dish in a pretty purple color from Target back when I lived in Madison and I have fallen in love with it. It is the perfect size for your favorite casseroles (or my Mom’s mac and cheese in my case), can go straight into the dishwasher and looks pretty on the table too.

GreenSaver Produce Keepers

I bought two of these, one medium and one large, this Spring and have been so impressed with how well they keep produce. I’ve had spinach last 3 weeks in them and they have helped me to be able to buy more produce without worrying it will go bad so I don’t have to go to the grocery store as often right now.

Glass Containers

After using plastic containers for many years, I decided that the tomato stains were pretty gross and I should probably switch to glass. I’ve had these ones from OXO for two years now and there isn’t a stain or scratch in sight. They do get a little heavy in lunch boxes, but they’re great for stacking in the fridge and can go straight to the microwave or oven to make reheating easy. I have them in all different sizes, but the 8-cup is my most used.

Glass Straws

You might have noticed in some of my drink pictures these glass straws that I use. They hold up great and don’t give you the weird taste that some metal ones can. I even throw these in the dishwasher with the silverware to make cleaning extra-easy.

7″ Frying Pan

I scooped up this frying pan during Amazon Prime Day this year after needing a small frying pan for a long time. GreenPan is non-toxic and non-stick, but also holds up amazingly. I use this pan almost every day and it has yet to fail me.

Cast Iron Pan

Another Prime Day purchase, I got this Lodge Cast Iron 10.25″ Pan for $8 and it has been one of the best purchases. Lodge is known for their cast iron and I can see why. It has pretty much replaced my electric countertop grill and has been perfect for baking and pizzas, along with anything else I throw at it.

Stasher Reusable Bags

Over the past year, I have slowly been replacing my plastic baggies with Stasher Reusable Bags whenever I run out. I currently have 3 gallon size bags and one sandwich size, but will definitely be purchasing more. I love that you can put them in the freezer, fridge, or even use them for sous vide cooking. They can also go in the dishwasher which makes them extra easy to clean. Plus, the colors are super cute!

Utility Cart

Last but definitely not least is this Utility Cart from Amazon. This was the first thing I purchased for my kitchen when I realized that the cabinets were basically unusable, and has been essential ever since. I store my pots, Instant Pot, spices, cookbooks, wine, and casserole dishes on it. It truly has been a lifesaver and clearly is for other people too since it sells out on Amazon pretty frequently.
